BreakBread World Media Strategy & Press Relations

BreakBread World

The Why

BreakBread World, a Kingston, NY community organization, was launching its Kitchen Table Series, a three-month pilot placing small groups of five to seven people in homes across the Hudson Valley for structured, honest conversation. The founders, Martha Williams and John Scilipote, had a genuine and strong story: a distinctive practice, real early proof points, and a compelling personal origin. They were looking to build awareness with media and create press infrastructure for their nonprofit without an existing outlet list, pitch strategy, media preparation, or time to build any of it themselves while running the program.

The How

  • Built a regional press list from Kingston outward, organized by tier and priority

  • Developed a sequenced pitching strategy. Approaching one outlet at a time, spaced to protect relationships and avoid the appearance of a mass blast

  • Wrote and managed all outreach personally, tailoring each pitch's angle to the specific outlet and reporter's beat

  • Secured and managed a feature interview with Chronogram, the Hudson Valley's largest regional magazine, including message prep and follow-through

  • Created infrastructure: a press list, messaging and talking points document, and media briefs for each subsequent press conversation.
